CT Oilers Internship Program

As a part of the Connecticut Oilers organization, interns will be exposed to the inner workings of a professionally run hockey team. Specifically, interns will receive the opportunity to become involved with game night operations, marketing research and special projects. All interns will be required to handle computer applications with emphasis on Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Excel, Word, etc.). In addition to working games, the intern will have the opportunity to work in the office environment during the season. The semester will offer a chance to learn the daily regimen of a sports franchise, meet important contacts, and the chance to be involved in many aspects of the operation.
Learning Objectives

Interns will be educated in the following:

- Computer applications
- Organization
- Community and public relations
- Special events coordination
- Marketing
- Office management
- In-game Operations
- Video Coordination
- Play-by-Play Announcer
Compensation

The internships offered by the CT Oilers are non-compensated; however, the internship can be used to obtain course credits through your school.

Location

Interns are required to find their own transportation to and from work. The CT Oilers office is at the SoNo Ice House, 300 Wilson Avenue, Norwalk, CT, 06954.

Duties

1. Game Night - the game of hockey is an event and much occurs behind the scenes to insure our guests have an enjoyable evening regardless of the outcome. Intern responsibilities on game night will include (but not limited to) the following:

- Helping with in-arena promotions (i.e.: Lobby activities, promotions, and intermission activities) at all CT Oilers home games
- Performing other duties as assigned by full-time staff
- Score Keeping and In-game statistics which includes computer entry
- Video Coordination – arranging video connection and filming of games for fasthockey.com live feeds
- Play-by-Play Announcer - live streaming

2. Research - you will be asked to assist in the research of general market information, hockey specific information and corporate partnership information as well as tracking of various media announcements.

- Create literature, ticket sales promotions, and other special interest projects as needed
- Collect and organize game notes, game stats, team rosters and media guides to distribute on game nights
- Scan daily newspapers and clip all CT Oilers related articles
- Help in compiling team statistics on team and league attendance figures and player performance

3. Special Projects - depending upon your development and time commitments, you could be asked to create special projects to assist the CT Oilers staff. This could include grassroots marketing programs, advertising community projects, etc.

Equipment Manager – Buffalo State College

The Buffalo State College Men's Ice Hockey team is looking for a qualified Equipment Manager for the 2015-2016 season. Buffalo State College is a Division III school located just minutes from downtown Buffalo and proud members of the SUNYAC Conference. The men's hockey team plays a 25-game regular season schedule from October to March. The Equipment Manager will report to the Assistant Coach and will handle responsibilities such as: tracking and issuing all hockey equipment, apparel, laundering of all team and player issued gear, skate sharpening, and all other aspects a hockey equipment manager position entails.

The qualified applicant must be able to work ALL team practices and games throughout the regular and post-season schedule.

This is a volunteer position. School credit for internships can be earned.

Minimum Qualifications: Experienced hockey background with preferably 1+ years as a Head Equipment Manager either at the junior or collegiate level. Must have an excellent knowledge with skate sharpening and equipment repair. Must have the ability to work under pressure, keep confidentiality, be able to life up to 75 pounds, and have excellent communication skills.

A fantastic opportunity to be the Head Coach/GM of a Tier III Junior Hockey team in the South-West is available to the right candidate. Salary will be based upon experience.

Head Coach/GM Responsibilities: (USA Hockey Level 4 Required)

- Supervise, coach, mentor and oversee assigned personnel to maximize productivity and teamwork, which includes providing direction, managing performance, training and development, administration of team and league rules and fostering positive team and community relationships.
- Recruit and select a full roster of quality junior caliber players.
- Regularly identify and recruit potential players who are a match for the team and the opportunities that exist within the league structure and higher levels of hockey.
- Select and manage the Hockey Operations Staff for game day preparations
- Communicate as needed with community resources, including media, in order to promote the well-being of the team and associated personnel.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of coaching techniques, team standards and jr hockey league rules, including on and off ice procedures and policies.

- Previous experience as head or assistant coach in equivalent skill levels in junior leagues or higher required.

Equipment Managers – Interns - New York Bobcats

Summary:

These positions report directly to both the General Manager and Assistant General Manager. The equipment manager interns will coordinate the entire equipment area. Some of the responsibilities include inventory, disbursement, cleanining, laundering and maintenance. Extensive interaction with coaches, staff, student athletes and other rink employees is required of these positions. These responsibilities are to be taken care of at all practices and games.

This is a non paid internship. Candidates will be able to receive college credits for this position. The season starts in the middle of August and run through the end of March.

Qualifications:

Extensive background in ice hockey. Strong organizational, time management and communication skills required. Must be experienced in skate sharpening.

Camp Director - Management of Traveling Hockey Camps

The Sport International Hockey Academy is entering it's 26th year of hockey instruction (ages 6 - 17 yrs.) in 33 locations across the U.S. We are beginning the careful process for a Camp Director for our 2016 hockey camps, in charge of running camps in 11 different cities in 12 weeks, next summer. Our Camp Director would be in charge of Power Skating & Puckhandling instruction, daily Video Analysis, revenue accounting, driving van and trailer from city to city and day to day management of approximately 4 - 6 staff members.

Head Coach - University of Michigan Women's Ice Hockey Club

The University of Michigan Women's Ice Hockey Club is seeking a highly motivated head coach who can provide on-ice guidance that will allow the club to find success at the national level. The UM team is in the CCWHA League and is a D1 ACHA team. UM Women's Ice Hockey is a student-run organization that elects a board of players to perform all organizational tasks (i.e. game/referee scheduling, making travel arrangements, etc.), so the candidate need not perform "manager duties" in the traditional youth club sense. He/she must possess outstanding communication skills, strong leadership, and have experience coaching at a high level.

Start Date

- The Head Coach is expected to work with the board over the summer to coordinate and organize the upcoming season.
- Season begins September through March.

Required Qualifications

- Proven coaching success in a competitive ice hockey program.
- Ability to commit to all competitions during the months of September through March.
- Ability to run practices (approximately 4 hours per week). Practices are held Mon-Thurs - split between one early morning and 1-2 evening skates per week.
- Experience with coaching women's ice hockey.
- USAH Coaching certification (Level 4) and the ability to comply with other USAH/ACHA and UM requirements (safesport training) before the beginning of the season.

Responsibilities

- Run tryouts in September with team captains and coordinate with Team Leadership to select the team for the upcoming season.
- Lead practices and supervise all aspects of training and competition.
- Travel with team to away competitions and tournaments.
- Work closely with the Team Leadership to have a successful season by collectively assessing team strengths and weaknesses.
- Collaborate and plan over the summer for the upcoming season.
- Accept the responsibility of being a positive representative of the University of Michigan.

Salary

- $3,000 for the 2015/16 season.

EKU Colonels Men's Ice Hockey - Volunteer Assistant Coach

The EKU Colonels Hockey Club is seeking a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming 2015-16 season. The Colonels play a 26-game schedule in the ACHA with two practices per week and two off-ice sessions per week on campus.

The responsibilities will consist of assisting the Head Coach in planning, organizing and administrating all aspects of the program; including practice planning and implementation, strength and conditioning, video analysis and academic monitoring.

Please note that the position is strictly volunteer. However, there may exist compensation for this position through a Graduate Assistantship through the hockey program's close ties to the EKU Department of Exercise and Sport Science (candidate must meet Admission requirements).

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the general manager with scheduling needs
Serve as the in-house and lead all on-ice clinics, camps and training programs/practices
Propose innovative and developmentally appropriate in-house youth and adult ice hockey programs that promote sales brand and lead to continued participation.
Assign referees and scorekeepers for games and tournaments as needed
Report any and all maintenance and/or safety hazards to the general manager and appropriate departments immediately

High level of ice hockey playing and coaching experience
Proven history of training and developing ice hockey athletes; both on and off ice
