“HOCKEY COACHES CARE”, the official charitable organization of the American Hockey Coaches Association, is beginning its second full season of operation, under the guidance of HCC Director Ben Kirtland. While many AHCA individual members and schools were generous in 2002-03, Kirtland is looking for a major jump in giving for 2003-04.
“Many members responded to our first efforts at solicitation,” said Kirtland, the former head coach at the University of Connecticut. “But we want to see close to full participation this year. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the gift. We want everyone to embrace this charity.”
“HOCKEY COACHES CARE” has been set up to help hockey coaches and hockey families in need. Whether it is in response to an illness, accident, natural disaster, or other hardship, the AHCA wants “HOCKEY COACHES CARE” to lend whatever support its resources will allow.
All AHCA members will receive a pledge card this fall, allowing for school or individual contributions to “Hockey Coaches Care.”
“We hope that every NCAA program, and ACHA program as well, will consider dedicating proceeds from team scrimmages or ‘50-50’ raffles to this cause,” says Kirtland. “And we also wish to see the continuation of individuals reaching into their own pockets as well.”
In the meantime, anyone interested in making a donation before the formal mailing can send donations to:
