TERRY SKRYPEK of the UNIVERSITY of ST. THOMAS
NAMED AHCA MEN’S DIVISION III COACH of the YEAR
Veteran Coach Will Receive the Edward Jeremiah Award on April 23 in Naples, FL

Terry Skrypek, who led the University of St. Thomas to a 20-6-5 record and the NCAA Division III title game, has been named the winner of the 2005 Edward Jeremiah Award, given annually to the Men’s Division III Ice Hockey Coach of the Year. Skrypek, who completed his 18th season with St. Thomas, guided his team to the conference championship of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) before his post-season success in the NCAA’s. St. Thomas defeated St. John’s, 4-1, in an NCAA Opening Round game, before upsetting the nation’s #1 team, St. Norbert College, in the NCAA Quarterfinals, 3-2. In the Frozen Four at Middlebury, St. Thomas downed Trinity, 4-1, before bowing to defending champion and host, Middlebury College, 5-0.

A 1970 graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Skrypek has a career mark of 336-146-35 in 18 seasons. His teams have never finished below third place in the MIAC and he has 12 MIAC titles to his credit.

The Edward Jeremiah Award is named in honor of the great Dartmouth College head coach and was first presented in 1970. The runners-up for this year’s Edward Jeremiah Award were Bill Beaney of Middlebury College, Tom Carroll of New England College, and John Dunham of Trinity College.

College hockey’s Coach of the Year recipients are chosen by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Winners will receive their awards at the annual AHCA Coach of the Year Banquet, held in conjunction with the AHCA Convention in Naples, FL. This year’s banquet is scheduled for Saturday, April 23.
