MIKE SISTI of MERCYHURST COLLEGE NAMED AHCA WOMEN’S DIVISION I COACH of the YEAR

For his efforts in leading Mercyhurst College to the College Hockey America championship and an NCAA Tournament berth, Mike Sisti has been named by his peers as the AHCA Women’s Division I Coach of the Year for 2004- 05. The Lakers compiled a record of 28-6-2 this year, winning both the CHA regular season and tournament titles. Their season came to a close with a 5-4 triple overtime loss at Harvard University in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Sisti has a career record of 140-50-11 in six seasons as head coach of Mercyhurst Women’s hockey. A former associate head coach to men’s head coach Rick Gotkin, Sisti is a member of the Canisius College Sports Hall of Fame.

The runners-up for this year’s AHCA Women’s Division I Coach of the Year award were Katey Stone of Harvard University and Laura Halldorson of the University of Minnesota.

Other Finalists for the 2004-05 AHCA Women’s Ice Hockey Division One Coach of the Year Award: Paul Flanagan, St. Lawrence; Mark Hudak, Dartmouth; Brian McCloskey, New Hampshire; Tom Mutch, Boston College.

College hockey’s Coach of the Year recipients are chosen by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Winners will receive their awards at the annual AHCA Coach of the Year Banquet, held in conjunction with the AHCA Convention in Naples, FL. This year’s banquet is scheduled for Saturday, April 23.
