Seven players competing for an NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship in Columbus, Ohio, this weekend have been honored as CCM ALL-AMERICANS for 2004-05. Leading the way was Colorado College, with four West First Team Selections, followed by defending NCAA Champion Denver, who had three selections overall. Also recognized with three honorees were Boston College and Cornell.
Noteworthy among the selections:
• The only player who repeated as a First Team selection was Boston College defenseman Andrew Alberts.
• Four honorees had been Second Team choices in the past and one, Dartmouth forward Lee Stempniak, was First Team in 2004 but Second Team this year.
• Only 11 of the 24 selections are seniors; just three of those from the West.
• The honorees hail from 9 states, four Canadian provinces, and Finland. The leading sources is Minnesota (4), followed by Massachusetts and Michigan (3).
The CCM ALL-AMERICAN ICE HOCKEY TEAMS are sponsored by CCM, an international leader in hockey equipment, and chosen by members of the AMERICAN HOCKEY COACHES ASSOCIATION.
