Two veteran coaches from the ECAC Hockey League
recently reached the 200-win mark in their coaching careers.
Dan Fridgen of Rensselaer won his 200th game when RPI
downed Army, 4-0, on October 23. The 1982 Colgate University
graduate is in his 12th season in Troy and through
November 20, his career record was 200-178-34.
On October 28, Cornell’s Mike Schafer accomplished the
same feat when his Big Red defeated Michigan State, 4-2,
in Lynah Rink. Schafer, an outstanding defenseman in
Cornell’s Class of 1986, had a career mark of 203-106-35 in
11 seasons at Cornell as of November 20. He began the season
with a career winning percentage of .643, eighth best
among active Men’s Division I coaches.
Schafer is only the second Cornell coach to reach 200
wins, the other being another Big Red alumnus, Dick
Bertrand (230-103-9 from 1970-1982.)
