After a 29-day hiatus, the WOMEN’S COMMISSIONER CUP series resumed this past weekend with a battle of heavyweights in Minneapolis.
And just like that, the whole series will wrap up over the next six days. The WCHA holds a slim two-point lead over the ECAC, but the ECAC has two games in hand. Who will be the winner after this week’s four contests? Here’s a look at last week’s sole game:
Minnesota 2, Boston College 1 (at Minneapolis, MN): One day after the two respected programs battled to a 2-2 tie, host Minnesota rode a 2-0 first period lead to a tight 2-1 victory over the visiting Eagles of BC. Laura May scored her first goal of the season for the Gophers at 2:31 of the opening period and the eventual GWG came from Anya Miller, her seventh on the year, at 9:14. BC’s Shannon Webster scored an unassisted goal at 11:19 of the third to make it tight but Minnesota hung on. Molly Schaus, who made 43 saves the day before, stopped 33 for Boston College (an even 11 in each period).
And so it comes to the final four games, a highlight being #1 UNH (Hockey East) at #9 Dartmouth (ECAC) on Thursday night.
