Three-time All American goaltender Kyle Jones of St. Norbert College has been chosen by the nation's coaches as the 2008 winner of the Sid Watson Award Award, symbolic of the nation's best Division III men's hockey player. Jones, a senior from North Delta, British Columbia, will take the ice this weekend at the NCAA Division III Men's Championships in Lake Placid, NY.

Jones earned first team All-American status this season, having been a second team selection as a freshman and again as a sophomore. In 23 games this season, he compiled a stingy 1.18 goals against average and a save percentage of .945. His record was 19-1-3. Over his career, Jones has played in 105 games, going 85-10-8, with a 1.61 GAA and .925 percentage. Earlier this season, it was announced that he had ben selected to play in the annual "Skills Challenge" during the NCAA Division I Men's Frozen Four in Denver, CO.

Said St. Norbert College head coach Tim Coghlin, “Kyle Jones is the best goaltender to ever play at St Norbert College. He currently holds NCAA records for most wins (85) and shut outs (23). Kyle has earned All-American honors and recently been named NCHA Player of the Year for the second time (2006 & 2008). However, his stats do not tell the entire story. He is a very good student and is heavily involved in our youth hockey programs and volunteering for goaltending clinics. He is a great teammate and a humble young man with a bright future. Since Kyle has arrived on campus, our four-year record reflects 96 wins 13 losses 11 ties. St. Norbert College has won four consecutive NCHA Championships and has appeared in three NCAA tournament and two Frozen Fours.”

The award is named in honor of former Bowdoin College head coach Sid Watson, a three-time winner of the Edward Jeremiah Award as Division III Coach of the Year. Watson won 326 at Bowdoin in a career that spanned from 1959 to 1983. He was also the school’s athletic director.

The runner-up for the 2008 Sid Watson Award was Rick Cleaver, a senior forward from Norwich University.
