The early season provided some landmark victories for a handful of AHCA member coaches. Most noteworthy: Boston University's Jack Parker and Wisconsin's Jeff Sauer became the fourth and fifth coaches, respectively, to join the 600-win Club. Parker's #600 come on Saturday, November 27, with a 5-1 home victory against Colorado College, the some opponent victimized by his 300th win. All of Parker's wins have come at BU.
Sauer reached that mark on Friday, December I 0, with a 5-2 home win over Alaska-Anchorage. His 600 wins have come at Colorado College and Wisconsin.
Other coaches with 600+ wins: Michigan State's Ron Mason, who won his 850th in December. Mason's incredible total has been compiled at Lake Superior, Bowling Green, and MSU; Bemidji's Bob Peters, who has also coached at North Dakota, had 733 as of December 20; and Len Ceglarski, who won 674 games at Clarkson and Boston College.
Also celebrating milestone victories this season:
- Red Berenson, Michigan: the veteran Wolverines' coach won his 400th game on October 30 with a 3-2 win over Yale at Yost Arena.
- John Harrington, St. John's: his win #100 come on November 20 when St. John's downed WI-Eau Claire, 3-2.
- Dan Fridgen, Rensselaer: that same 3-2 score gave "Fridge" his 100th win, at home, against Harvard on December 3.
Coming up: look for Mercyhurst's Rick Gotkin to reach #200 and St. Norbert's Tim Coghlin to enjoy #400 early in the new year.
