MAJOR AHCA AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Berglund, Hammond, Hendrickson, Pearson and Riley Recognized

Five more contributors to amateur hockey will be recognized at the annual AHCA Coach of the Year and Awards Banquet to be held on Saturday, April 29, at the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club in Naples, FL. They are:

  • The John Macinnes Award: Bill Riley, Jr. The former head coach at Lehigh and Lowell won 376 games in his career and began the year ranked #23 on the all-time win list. Along with his uncle, Jack, and his still active cousin, Rob, the Rileys have won nearly 1200 college hockey games.
  • The John "Snooks" Kelley Founders Award: Herb Hammond. The former AHCA Secretary-Treasurer won 264 games while coaching at Oswego, Plattsburgh, and Brown. He is still a common sight at college games in his role as scout for the New York Rangers.
  • The Jim Fullerton Award: Art Berglund. Countless college hockey programs and college hockey players have been helped along by USA Hockey's International Director. Whether it is bringing a foreign team to a U.S. campus, assisting a college team's trip abroad, getting a college player on a U.S. National Team, or assisting a former collegian playing overseas, Berglund is always in the middle of the action.
  • The John Marlucci Award: Dave Hendrickson. A native of Eveleth, MN, Dave has proudly carried on in the great tradition of his hometown, succeeding as a player (high school and college levels) and coach (Crookston and Virginia high schools), and continuing to contribute as a scout, a writer, and a coach for the Minnesota amateur hockey community.
  • Terry Flanagan Award: Mel Pearson. The legacy of Terry Flanagan lives on through this award and all assistant coaches can share in the honor bestowed upon Michigan's Pearson. Still active and still successful, Pearson has helped continue the Wolverines' unmatched tradition of success, including the current Michigan campaign. This award recognizes a career of work.
