STEVE ARONSON of the UNIVERSITY of ST. THOMAS IS AHCA COLLEGE DIVISION PLAYER of the YEAR
Steve Aronson, a three-time College Division All-American from the University of St. Thomas, has been honored as the College Division Player of the Year by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). The senior forward out of Minnetonka, MN, earned this honor through a vote of the nation's college division (non-Division I) head coaches.
Says Steve's coach, Terry Skrypek, "Steve has been a coach's dream. Just to name a few attributes, this is what he brings to the table: humility, pride, leadership, integrity, honesty and great skill as a player. He is a two-sport athlete, currently the Captain of a nationally ranked baseball team. He also served as captain of the hockey team as a junior and, this year leading us to the NCAA'S. He has maintained a 3.4 GPA this year and has devoted significant time to the Minnetonka Youth Hockey Program, teaching and instructing young players. Steve also serves on our athlete advisory committee, dealing with issues that partain to the athletic department. He competes every day, making his teammates better. The locker room is his domain, performing his duties as captain to make sure we are ready to play. On a personal note, he is the best person and athlete that I have coached in my 13 years at St. Thomas."
This season, in 33 games, Aronson scored 38 goals and 63 assists for 91 points. His four-year personal totals: 106-139-244 in 119 games.
The runner-up for this year's award is senior forward Marc Bellemare of Norwich University a two-time First Team All-American from Cornwall, ONT, Other finalists: senior forward Kevin Adam of Bethel, senior forward Curt Goldman of Middlebury; and senior goaltender David Haimson of Williams.
